In coordination with the Ministry of Local Affairs, the US Government is buying sanitation kits for municipal trash collectors and janitors in 151 of Tunisia’s 350 municipalities (nearly half of all municipalities in Tunisia) through its local governance USAID program TADEEM – Tunisia Accountability, Decentralization, and Effective Municipalities. Five other donors (France, Switzerland, EU, UNDP, and Germany are procuring the same equipment for the remaining municipalities. The US is buying over 3 million liters of bleach and disinfectants to keep public surfaces safe, and 80,000 items valued at $1.5 million (about 4.5 million dinar) that include cleaning equipment and materials for hospitals to handle casualties.
