U.S. Embassy Commemorates the First Anniversary of the Sacrifice of Major Taoufik Missaoui

Ambassador Donald Blome joined Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi in commemorating the first anniversary of the sacrifice of Major Taoufik Missaoui who sacrificed his life in the March 6, 2020 terrorist attack in front of the US Embassy in Tunis. During the ceremony, Ambassador Blome offered heartfelt condolences to Major Missaoui’s family as they grieve their difficult loss and recognized the challenging work and sacrifices undertaken by all the security forces protecting Tunisia and the guests of Tunisia. Ambassador Blome reiterated: “I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm the United States Government’s dedication to deepening our strong partnership with the Government of Tunisia and to continuing our support in our common fight against terrorism.”

Thank you Mr. Prime Minister for inviting the US Embassy to this occasion honoring the sacrifice that Major Tawfik Missaoui gave on this day, one year ago.

I again offer my heartfelt condolences to Major Missaoui’s family as they grieve their difficult loss. This event today demonstrates our recognition of the challenging work and sacrifices undertaken by all the security forces protecting Tunisia and the guests of Tunisia.

I would like to highlight the frontline role of each officer assigned to this mission. Thank you for standing here diligently in front of the US Embassy each day and night knowing what is at stake. Thanks to your sacrifices and dedication to duty, Tunisia and its people are blessed with security and peace.

I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm the United States Government’s dedication to deepening our strong partnership with the Government of Tunisia and to continuing our support in our common fight against terrorism. The memory of Major Tawfik Missaoui will remain alive among us. And he and his fellow martyrs for the homeland.
