Tunisian Exchange Female Alumni Take Part of #DadsAndDaughters Social Media Campaign

“I didn’t run for President so that the dreams of our daughters could be deferred or denied. I didn’t run for President to see inequality and injustice persist in our time. I ran for President to put the same rights, the same opportunities, and the same dreams within the reach for our daughters and our sons alike.”

To mark the International Day of the Girl on October 11, some of Tunisian amazing female alumni shared their stories about how their dads empowered them and changed their views on gender equality:

hana-attia“My father and my grandfather who had both loved me and supported during my whole life. They both wanted me to apply for the Thomas Jefferson scholarship program and believed in me even more than I believed in myself. My father was asked several times why he supported me so much during my U.S. experience. He always replied that he is proud of the woman he raised and that he trusts me and believes in me and in my capabilities.” – Hana Attia, #TJSP2015.

yosr-belghith“Since my childhood my dad made sure I was involved in all sort of activities—sports, art, culture, and politics. It was a challenge for my parents to break the labels about girls and decide to raise them with a different mindset, but my dad made sure I would grow up to be the young lady I am today.” – Yosr Belghith, SUSI on Women’s Leadership 2015.
