Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Tunis – July 26, 2021 – Recent Events and Demonstrations in Tunisia
Event: Due to recent events in Tunisia, as well as demonstrations primarily in downtown Tunis and throughout the country, the U.S. Embassy in Tunis strongly encourages U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness.
U.S. citizens in Tunisia are encouraged to review the Department of State travel advisory for Tunisia, which recommends that U.S. citizens avoid demonstrations and crowds, monitor local media for breaking events, and be prepared to adjust travel plans.
While we are not aware of specific, credible threats against U.S. citizens in Tunisia at this time, travelers to and in Tunisia are urged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and to make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
Actions to take:
- Exercise vigilance in areas where protests have occurred.
- Monitor local media for updates
- Be aware of your surroundings
· Keep a low profile.
- Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.
· Review your personal security plans.
