Excerpts from President Beji Caid Essebsi Remarks at the Investment and Entrepreneurship Conference

TUNIS (TAP) – “ Tunisia needs support to initiate structural reforms that can sometimes be painful,” said President Beji Caid Essebsi.

Speaking at the closing of the Investment and Entrepreneurship Conference, he stressed that this event is a major opportunity for Tunisia which has already made significant political progress and needs now to usher in a new stage of urgent economic reforms.

“US President Barack Obama’s message to participants in this conference reflects the US interest in Tunisia, the only Arab country that have succeeded with minimal damage to complete a political transition with the promulgation of a constitution and the organisation of free and transparent parliamentary and presidential elections,” Caid Essebsi emphasised.

“Tunisia is now half-way and has not other choice but to move forward on the path of economic transition which requires the establishment, with the support of foreign partners, particularly the United States, of unavoidable structural reforms despite their impact that can sometimes be painful,” he pointed out.

He added that all Tunisians with all their political affiliations have the right to participate in this process for the good of the country.
