Message for U.S. Citizens: Voting in the 2020 Elections

United States Election Day is November 3, 2020.  If you are planning to submit your absentee ballot, now is the time!

To vote in the 2020 U.S. elections from Tunisia:

Receive and complete your ballot:  States are required to send out ballots 45 days before a regular election for federal office.  Please complete your ballot as soon as you receive it to ensure on-time delivery to the United States.  The recommended ‘vote-by’ date for overseas voters is October 13, 2020.

Return your completed, signed ballot:  Some states allow you to return your completed ballot by email or fax.  However, if your state requires you to return your paper ballot to local election officials by mail, U.S. citizens can send their completed, signed ballots through the U.S. Embassy Tunis diplomatic pouch.  To allow processing time between the Department of State and U.S. Postal Service systems, ballots must be dropped off at the Embassy no later than October 23, 2020.

American citizens can drop off their completed, sealed ballots at the Embassy pedestrian gate without an appointment.  If you wish to drop off your ballot, please place it in either a U.S. postage-paid envelope or an envelope bearing domestic U.S. postage addressed to your local election officials

If your absentee ballot did not arrive:  Complete and return a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot.  If your regular ballot arrives later, you should complete and return it as well.  Your Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot will only be counted if your regular ballot does not reach local election officials by your state’s deadline.  Your vote will not be counted twice.

For assistance:  The Department of State is committed to assisting overseas voters in casting their ballots.  For instructions on how to vote from Tunisia please see our website, https://tn.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/voting/, or email the Embassy Tunis Consular Section at TunisACS@state.gov.

For general overseas voting information please see the Department of State’s website Absentee Voting Information for U.S. Citizens Abroad or FVAP.gov.
