Leadership Programs

The Assistance Unit manages three Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Leadership Programs that grant motivated youth scholarships for universities in the region, as well as exchanges and training that build expertise and linkages among professionals across the region and with the United States.

MEPI Leadership Programs enhance cultural understanding, international collaboration, institution building, knowledge sharing, and economic development between U.S. and Middle East/North Africa-based students, entrepreneurs, lawmakers, and civil society leaders.

Tomorrow’s Leaders provides four-year university scholarships and internship opportunities at select institutions of higher learning in the Middle East to senior high school students who have the potential to become leaders.  This program nurtures leadership skills and the spirit of civic engagement and volunteerism among outstanding university-age students at the American University of Beirut (AUB), the Lebanese American University (LAU), and the American University of Cairo (AUC). The Leadership Development Fellowship (LDF Fellowship) provides leaders from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with the opportunity to complete training in civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, and leadership.  Emerging leaders across sectors from the MENA region will participate in a 5-stage, 12-month fellowship to identify innovative ways to address social and economic challenges in local communities.  Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in either the English track or the Arabic track.
