As part of its support to ELT associations and activities in Tunisia, Public Diplomacy Officer Sarah Hennessey and English Language Teaching Coordinator Saida Jedidi Sfaxi attended the TEARN National Conference on Global Education in the Horizon of 2030 Building Peace and Democracy, on April 10-11 at Cites des Sciences. The Embassy Representatives met with TEARN President Hela Nafti and TEARN members across the country.  PDO Hennessey delivered remarks during the opening ceremony underlying the Embassy’s support for English language programming in Tunisia and emphasizing the role that ELT plays in today’s global society. PDO Hennessey welcomed all the teachers who attended the conference and highlighted their role as guides and mentors for their students. Anisha Patel, the founder and Chief Education Officer of Innovused LLC in Chicago, has been invited by the Embassy to be a keynote speaker at this conference. Ms. Patel talked at the plenary session about civic education, service learning and engagement. She shared examples of service learning at her community and heard back from the teachers as well. On the second day of the conference, Ms. Patel conducted a workshop on girls’ education and empowerment and had the chance to meet with students and hear their ideas and thoughts about how they are global citizens and involved in global conversation.
