The U.S. Embassy in collaboration with the Tunisian Fulbright Society (TFS) hosted a panel entitled “English Matters in Tunisia and the MENA Region.” Guest speakers included Mohamed Khoutheir Khribi, Fulbright alumnus and Program Manager at ALECSO, Ms. Hela Nafti, Senior English Language Inspector and T-Earn President, and Ms. Boutheina Lassadi, university professor and Employment Consultant. The audience was comprised of enthusiastic English teachers and PhD students who discussed the status of English language in Tunisia and other MENA countries and challenges facing inspectors and teachers of English. One point of discussion was how to focus on learning and not just on teaching. Panel members also discussed best practices for enhancing the learning experience. Discussion also covered the use of new technologies in teaching and several open educational resources were shared among the audience. Ambassador Rubinstein dropped by the event and joined a discussion on the use of technology and open sources in today’s classrooms.
