On World Press Freedom Day, celebrated every year on May 3rd, Seth Meixner, Country Director of the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) spoke at the IRC. Mr. Meixner focused on the practical training IWPR conducts to empower young journalists, and also discussed the skills journalists need to protect digital information and to ensure their own safety. For journalists who attended the event, Mr. Meixner emphasized the importance of community-focused content, which news consumers more closely identify with. Those in attendance discussed ethics in media, what it means to have a responsible non-partisan free press, and what skills journalists need to enhance in an era where information travels very fast.
