Tunis, November 3, 2023 – The U.S. Embassy Tunis is pleased to announce we are now
accepting applications for the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Student Leaders
Program. The Student Leaders Program is a rigorous, yearlong leadership and civic engagement
program, including a 4-week summer session in the United States, for talented undergraduate
and graduate students from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region between 20 and
24 years of age. Expenses for the program are fully covered by the U.S. Department of State.
The 2024-2025 program will focus on climate change and environmental protection. Since
2007, more than 150 Tunisian undergraduate and graduate students have participated in the
U.S. Department of State-funded MEPI Student Leaders Program. The application deadline is
Monday, December 18, 2023.

Selected students will complete academic coursework from a U.S. university, develop
leadership and project management skills, and expand their understanding of civil society and
participatory governance processes in the United States and the MENA region. The
cornerstone of the program is the development of Community Engagement Plans (CEP). Each
student is required to develop and implement a CEP on an issue or opportunity related to
climate change or environmental protection in her/his community.

The 2024-2025 summer session is an intensive, in-person, 4-week program on a U.S. university
campus, tentatively scheduled to take place from June 28 to July 26, 2024. During the program,
students will have opportunities to network with their American peers, engage in community
service activities, and meet with civil society organizations. Upon completion of the summer
program, students will implement their CEPs and receive follow-on support, training, and
