On Friday, August 24, 45 Access program students from Tabarka visited the Embassy’s American Center and met with an American diplomat for a discussion about the U.S. Embassy’s work in Tunisia and to answer students’ questions. The students presented original poems, songs, and artwork in English and enjoyed an American-style spelling bee game with the Public Diplomacy Officer and English Language Coordinator. The English Access Microscholarship Program provides youth from economically disadvantaged communities with English language and other global citizenship skills that improve educational and employment prospects, build self-esteem, and provide a deeper multi-cultural understanding. The program has benefitted more than 2,000 Tunisian youth and is currently active in six governorates throughout Tunisia.
