34th Annual Joint Military Commission

October 6-7, 2020 marks the 34th annual Joint Military Commission (JMC), an event symbolic of the strong and enduring partnership between the United States and Tunisia which dates back to the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1797. This year’s JMC at the Ministry of Defense Officers’ Club was attended by Minister of Defense Brahim Bertegi and senior Tunisian military officials. He was joined by U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome and U.S. Embassy military staff.

The JMC is the premiere security cooperation planning event which allows both countries to achieve critical bilateral goals. This year’s discussions built on recent successful talks between U.S. Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, and Tunisian Minister of Defense, Brahim Bertegi, on 30 September. JMC discussions focused on shared defense cooperation goals to strengthen regional security by combatting terrorism and safeguarding Tunisian sovereignty through bolstering border security.
